Prinshof IT Laboratory
A sweeping, simple design solution for in internally orientated building
Project Value: R30 MillionSector:Education Client:University of PretoriaLocation: Pretoria, South Africa400 state of the art computers for Computer Based Tests (CBT) needed to be accommodated in a new facility where security was a key priority. Located on the Prinshof Campus and surrounded by historic buildings, the building needed to be sensitive to the surrounding structures.
Due to the security and concerns over glare, much of the building is orientated inwards with few windows. Not wanting to compete with the surrounds, the façade is austere, with one bright accent colour used to highlight design elements and define the main entrance. The area outside the main entrance is populated with concrete chairs, robust but detailed, enticing the students to sit under the lush greenery whilst awaiting their exams.
